Clos de Vougeot is the largest Grand Cru vineyard in the Côte de Nuits with over 50 hectares of vines and around 80 owners. The Clos has a
gentle 3-4 degree slope from top to bottom and is supported by three separate geologies with six different soil types that vary in depth and
drainage. Soils at the top are quite shallow, coarse-grained and have a high limestone content with good drainage. The middle section has a
fine brown calcareous soil of 45 cm average depth on limestone gravel with moderate drainage. At the bottom near the RN74 road the soils
are much deeper, have a high clay content with poor drainage. A blending of wines from these different parcels produces a complete, solid
wine capable of long ageing.
